Rubus rosifolius
Rubus rosifolius
Rubus rosifolius, the Asian raspberry, is a plant species of the family Rosaceae. Its origin is generally found in South-East Asia, it is commonly found in Australia, New Caledonia (where it is called "brown raspberry", or "raspberry country"), in some Pacific islands, and in Asia from tropical China to the Indian subcontinent. It has been acclimatized in many tropical and warm temperate zones, where it is sometimes grown on a commercial scale. It is found in abundance in southern Brazil, California. It has also been introduced in the West Indies, where it prefers altitude and humid mountain slopes.
It has been classified as an "invasive plant" in Hawaii, Puerto Rico and French Polynesia.
This raspberry red, pulpy and little juicy is sweet flavor but little taste. In the Lesser Antilles, it is eaten as is, but it is also used to prepare jam, punch macerated fruit (punch Matouba) or dessert mixed with other fruits (orange, pineapple, lychees, etc.).
