Kiwano-Fruit
Cucumis metulifer
Is a tropical plant species of the family Cucurbitaceae.
Its fruit, the kiwano is edible. It is also called metulon, melano, African horned cucumber or horned melon.
She is from Africa and Arabia (Yemen).
Synonym: Cucumis metuliferus E.Mey.
Fruit:
The fruit of this cucumber is orange. The skin is strewn with thorns. It measures about ten centimeters. The inside of the fruit is green and contains many seeds, its pulp is slightly sticky. The juice has a taste of banana and kiwi, or even cucumber.
Culture :
The kiwano is grown mainly in southern and central Africa, but also in the United States, Spain, Portugal, Israel, Kenya and New Zealand.
Uses:
Although it is a fruit, its many pips make it not very appreciable, that is why it is much more used as a decorative or ornamental element as are the coloquintes (cucurbitaceae related to squash).

It is well recognized that kiwano is rich in vitamins and minerals and has an antioxidant effect. The seeds would have a vermifuge effect.
